I am a member of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) MASIDTALAK Class of 2023, it is an honor and privilege to serve the country and its people. As a budding police officer, the first year of service is an opportunity to learn, grow, and develop my skills and policy-making potential. It is important to identify the gaps and address them, even when in a leadership position. The experience of rotating through different assignments and field assignments is invaluable, as it helps me understand the complexities of the job and prepares me for future challenges.
In dealing with superiors, seniors, colleagues, juniors, and the community, it is important to maintain professionalism and respect at all times. It is crucial to establish a culture of giving and receiving feedback to and from superiors in order to build a healthy working relationship and foster an environment of open communication. I must be prepared to accept the consequences of my actions and not be defensive when receiving feedback from superiors. It is important to maintain a clear distinction between work and leisure time, and not to engage in familiarity with those in my chain of command during official hours.
It is also important to study the history and culture of the area I am assigned to. This helps me understand the social dynamics of the community and be aware of their past and current status. I must respect local customs and traditions and be involved in the community I serve. Being prepared for sudden deployments and having everything in order, such as packing a lunch and grab bag, is essential. First impressions are important, and as a police officer, it is important to start on the right foot. I must be mindful of even the smallest details and maintain professionalism at all times, whether in formal or informal settings.
Having everything prepared and accomplished before retiring for the night is also essential. Despite being invited to social events by superiors, I must still maintain a professional demeanor and be at work on time. When facing criticism or criticism from superiors, I must prove my worth and maintain my professionalism. When assigned to a superior's quarters or residence, I must arrive on time and dress in smart casual attire. As the junior officer, I should initiate conversation politely.
In dealing with people who seek to ingratiate themselves, I must not be swayed by them and not try to win someone's approval by giving gifts or money. I must simply do my work professionally and not seek approval through gifts or money. During the director's time with graduating cadets, it is important to maintain professionalism and not engage in familiarity during leisure time.
In consolidation, being a member of the PNPA MASIDTALAK Class of 2023 is a privilege and a significant responsibility.
